Motorcycle Insurance for a Guest Rider
Reader Question: I just bought a new bike and want to take my girlfriend on it. If I have a rider on my bike, do I have to insure my rider? I am looking for insurance but I don’t want a higher premium.

Way to go on the girl and the bike. You definitely want to be sure that you and your girlfriend are taken care should you get in an accident on your bike. If this is your first bike I would recommend that you take a motorcycle safety driving course. Many insurance companies offer a 10 to 15 percent discount for taking and passing a driving safety course, so be sure to find that out. If you plan to have guest riders on your motorcycle, be sure to discuss this with your agent, as each company has its own policy. A guest rider may increase your premiums. Shop around to find the agent or company that is right for you.
